USAID "Competitive Economy of Ukraine": From a mother on maternity leave to a heavy construction equipment operator

MainNews

Nina is a mother of three children, the youngest daughter is only a year old. But even on maternity leave, Nina was able to fulfill a long-standing dream - to master heavy construction equipment. Thanks to the “School of Construction Equipment Operators”, a woman now drives excavators and loaders, proving that dreams come true, despite all stereotypes.

Although Nina is an agronomist by education, she always wanted to work on construction equipment. However, she was hesitant to start, because such work in Ukraine was mainly performed by men. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the construction industry underwent changes. Due to the personnel crisis, companies became more open to attracting women to a profession that was previously dominated by men.

In October 2024, Nina successfully completed the course and now works as an equipment operator. For now, she is a substitute driver, but after the end of maternity leave, she plans to switch to full-time work.
Dreams are possible. And Nina is a shining example of that.

Watch her inspiring story.
